Google Nest (formerly Nest Labs)

Thirteen years ago, Nest introduced the Nest Learning Thermostat. It revolutionized the smart home industry by transforming a simple wall thermostat into an intelligent, helpful, and aesthetically pleasing device. Over the years, it has helped customers save billions of kilowatt-hours of energy across millions of households, providing a way to save money and help the environment directly from home. In 2024, Google introduced the completely reimagined Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen), its smartest and most beautiful thermostat yet. For the first time, it comes with a redesigned Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd Gen) included in the box. The Next Generation of Iconic Design When the company first developed the Nest Learning Thermostat, the goal was to create a device that complimented your home rather than detracting from it. It was built on the principle that a thermostat doesn't have to be a bulky gadget on the wall—it can be something beautiful and functional. Now, taking a major step forward, evolving the design of the award-winning Nest thermostat and building upon what customers loved about the original. Every element of the design has been thoughtfully crafted. The sleek, slim profile creates the illusion that the thermostat is floating. The rich, gratifying click that accompanies each rotation of the stainless steel bangle is a result of years of meticulous attention to detail. The new domed crystal LCD display is 60% bigger than the previous generation, housed behind multiple layers of mirror and colored films, completely eliminating the appearance of bezels for a long-lasting aesthetic. Google Nest made the display even more helpful with Dynamic Farsight, which lets you customize the home screen to easily view the time, temperature, weather, or outdoor air quality up close and at a glance. To complement any home interior, the thermostat is available in three metal finishes: Polished Silver, Polished Obsidian, and Polished Gold. Like a light fixture or a faucet on your sink, your thermostat needs to be functional and look great, too. Advanced AI to Save Energy and Maximize Comfort With the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen), Google introduced the concept of intelligence to help you save energy and money. It keeps you comfortable while you're home and switches to an energy-efficient temperature when you're away. The Nest Learning Thermostat is the company's smartest, most advanced thermostat yet. It uses AI to automatically make micro-adjustments based on your patterns to keep you comfortable while saving both energy and money. The AI can more quickly and accurately create personalized, energy-saving temperature schedules. With Smart Schedule, the thermostat learns which temperatures you choose most often and adjusts your schedule to match changes in behavior, such as coming home earlier. The thermostat also analyzes how the weather outdoors affects the temperature inside. For instance, on a sunny winter day, it will pause heating if your home gets warmer naturally. It will adjust the indoor temperature on a humid day for optimal comfort. Each thermostat comes with a new Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd Gen) to help manage hot and cold spots in your home, like prioritizing the temperature in a baby’s room during nap time. You can add up to six temperature sensors for maximum control and flexibility. These sensors allow you to select multiple sensors and average the temperatures across them, linking them to your schedules for different times of the day. The Nest Temperature Sensor has a discreet, pebble-like form that fits into any home environment. You can place it on a bookshelf or hang it easily in any room using the keyhole on the back. System Health Monitoring and Smart Ventilation Homeowners know that heating and cooling systems can be expensive to replace if they break. The System Health Monitor feature tracks your HVAC performance over time, sensing subtle issues and sending urgent alerts for problems that may require immediate attention. For example, if you turn on the AC but your home fails to cool, the thermostat will send you an alert. Over time, it will get even smarter about detecting potential problems based on how your system behaves. If you have a ventilation system, the new Smart Ventilation feature brings in fresh air when outdoor air quality is healthy, and temperatures are mild. If pollutants like wildfire smoke make outdoor air quality unhealthy or temperatures are extreme, the thermostat will automatically pause ventilation. The thermostat also monitors humidity levels, helping to prevent mold or condensation buildup on your windows. Supporting Clean Energy and Easy Integration We know many people are eager to live more sustainably and help address climate change. Nest thermostats empower people to do so right from home with Nest Renew. Once you enroll in Nest Renew, your thermostat can automatically make small adjustments that shift energy use to cleaner and less expensive times, contributing to a more reliable and efficient energy grid while lowering household energy bills. The Nest Learning Thermostat is easy to install and, with its new 12-terminal backplate, expands compatibility to work with most HVAC systems. You can set it up yourself and control it through the Google Home app, so all your compatible smart home devices are in one place, working together. It's easy to set up automations to conserve energy, such as receiving a notification to close open windows when the heat is on. The app's most popular thermostat controls, such as adjusting the temperature or your schedule, have been redesigned to be easier and more intuitive. Because the Nest Learning Thermostat is Matter-certified, you can also control it with other Matter-compatible smart home apps.
